Natalia Gutman, Cellist and her late husband Oleg Kagan, Violin founded the International Music Festival Kreuth in 1990. Oleg Kagan being very ill already could only participate in the first edition of the festival and after two years the name was changed to Oleg Kagan Music Festival in his memory. Natalia Gutman remained artistic director for more than 20 years, and invited most of her prestigious friends to Kreuth.
The festival was organised by a registered society headed by Renita Engel-Aschoff for 17 years – since then Dieter Nonhoff has been the Managing Director until 2021, when Helge Augstein, also the artistic director took over, Nonhoff remaining in the board. From the beginning until now Rudi Wolf is a member of the board and since many years it’s treasurer. In 2012 the festivals name was changed back from Oleg Kagan to the original name Music Festival Kreuth at Lake Tegernsee.
Since 1990 many of the world most renowned artists have been guests at Kreuth – only some can be mentioned here:
Martha Argerich, Kit Armstrong, Yuri Bashmet, Kolja Blacher, Pavol Breslik, Eduard Brunner, Brigitte Fassbaender, Julia Fischer, David Fray, Christian Gerhaher, David Geringas, Matthias Goerne, Leonidas Kavakos, Evgeny Kissin, Igor Levit, Alexei Lubimov, Radu Lupu, Oleg Maisenberg, Misha Maisky, Shlomo Mintz, Nils Mönkemeyer, Daniel Müller-Schott, Julian Rachlin, Vadim Repin, Svjatoslav Richter, Mstislaw Rostropowitsch, Valer Sabadus, Olga Scheps, Peter Schreier, Ivan Sokolov, Viktor Tretjakov, Maxim Vengerov, Pavel Vernikov, Elisso Virsaladze, Jörg Widmann, Thomas Zehetmair and many more.
